Dear Parishioners,
Our Bishop, Joe Vásquez, has commissioned a commemorative book titled The Treasures of the Diocese of Austin that celebrates the 75 years of the Diocese of Austin. Beginning when residents, settlers and newly arrived migrants came to Texas, building towns and living their Catholic faith, to the present day, this beautifully bound book of almost 300 pages captures the history and images of our diocese, including Emmaus parish. From the earliest days of Catholic presence in Central Texas when, in 1847, the first diocese was established in Galveston and encompassing the entire state, this book unfolds the history in text and photos of parishes, missions, convents, schools, hospitals and more. Everyone is invited to obtain The Treasures of the Diocese of Austin as a celebration and reference for the Catholic Faith in our homes.
These special books will be available by the end of October and can be purchased from Emmaus for $40. They will be sold in both the parish office and in the narthex after all Masses on the first two weekends of November.
You are also invited to go online to the Diocese of Austin’s website (
www.austindiocese75.org) which has been specially created to explain the 75
th Anniversary with additional information about the commemorative book and the events of the jubilee year.
I personally recommend that each household of our parish obtain a commemorative book. The pages of history are fascinating and, as a reference for the Catholic Faith in our area, it is an invaluable resource. The presentation of our Emmaus Parish is extraordinary.
Your Pastor,
Father David
Queridos feligreses,
Padre David
