Happy First Friday,
Every week volunteers come down to our parish Saint Vincent de Paul food pantry and they fill grocery bags full of food to take down to serve people who are hungry at Hollywood East. In addition, many more boxes of food get sent out throughout the week to people in need. This is our Saint Vincent de Paul Society; this is what they do to gather and do a simple act of charity.
Now we're coming up to our annual Saint Vincent de Paul food drive where we ask everybody in the parish and school to come and help us go door to door in our parish boundaries to be a part of giving food to those who are hungry. We can't do it without you, and through this work of mercy our SvDP is able to do their work every week because of what you do one day a year.
We need everybody's help, and the time is coming up to put out the door hangers. There will be a board out to sign up to take some bags and to sign up for a couple blocks to delivery bags to be filled with food for pickup on November 19th; when we really need all hands on deck, and every little bit helps if you can come for an hour, if you can come for two hours, if you want to see it till the job is done, but when everybody helps we get done in about 1/2 a day.
I want to thank all our Saint Vincent de Paul volunteers who help every week, who are down here sometimes every day doing something to move the next step forward so people can get food, and I want to thank all of you and invite all of you who maybe can't do it every day but once a year you can show up in force. Have a great first Friday and during this month of Thanksgiving may you find something every day where you can be thankful, where you can tell other people how thankful you are, and where you can show them by your service.
God bless you,
Fr. Matt
