Feast of All Saints

Dear Parishioners,

November is upon us and we have two beautiful celebrations that make us think about death and the afterlife: Nov. 1, the Feast of All Saints, and Nov. 2, All Souls Day. All Saints is about Heaven and All Souls is about Purgatory.

We are all called to be Saints. Canonized or not, everyone in heaven is a saint. All Saints is about honoring all the saints in heaven and building our belief and desire for heaven. We all have a bit of window to heaven in our souls and this needs to expand. Heaven is the grace or life of God living within us. Our desire for heaven to be with God and all the saints should grow with each passing day and year. Heaven is our true home, we are only passing through this life on earth to eternal life.

On Nov. 2, we celebrate All Souls Day. We know that it is a good and charitable thing to pray for the souls of the dead in purgatory who need our prayers to come into the full glory of paradise. Purgatory is the place of purification before we can enter heaven. Our prayers for the souls in purgatory help those souls reach their eternal home in heaven. It is good to offer rosaries and masses for the souls in purgatory. As Our Lord reminds us, only the just and pure of heart will see the face of God. And we have to become like little children to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Purgatory is that process of restoring the innocence of a child.

This Tuesday, Nov. 1, All Saints Day, is a Holy Day of Obligation. I attempted to get a priest to come out here to celebrate a mass for this Feast Day but was unsuccessful. Therefore, we will have to use our neighboring parishes for this Holy Day. Please refer to the mass schedule below for mass times for the Feast of All Saints at Deer Park and Colville.

Fr. Vincent sent this quick update of his pilgrimage on Wednesday, Oct. 26:

We walked 15 miles yesterday and 18 miles today. It has been very beautiful and warm. The food is great. While in Lucca we got to know two saints and visit their tombs: St. Gemma Galgani and St. Zeta. St. Gemma died in 1903 at age 25 and is pictured at the altar here (a picture that Fr. Vincent took on his visit).

No Saturday Masses Oct. 29

Fr. Vincent is on a pilgrimage in Italy from Oct. 22 through Nov. 11. During that time, Saturday masses on Oct. 22 and Oct. 29 are canceled due to lack of priest availability. There will be substitutes celebrating each Sunday mass. However, on the weekend of Nov. 5 & 6, Fr. Mark Pautler will cover all Saturday and Sunday masses. There will also be no daily mass or confession while Father is away but parishioners are encouraged to go to St. Mary's Presentation Catholic Church in Deer Park (602 East 6th Street) or Immaculate Conception Parish in Colville (during this time. The front of this bulletin lists mass and confession times for each parish. However, we will still have Eucharistic Adoration on Fridays from 9-10 a.m. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Knights of Columbus Breakfast

Sunday, Oct. 30, 2022, 11 am, St. Mary's

The Chewelah Council of the Knights of Columbus will host its monthly pancake breakfast this Sunday, October 30 after 10 a.m. mass in Chewelah. Come join us for a wonderful breakfast and fellowship!

All-Parish Faith Night

Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022, 6 pm, St. Mary's

Please join us for dinner at 6 pm with faith formation classes (for all ages) starting at 6:30 pm every Wednesday. Matt Cobb will be the presenter for adult formation for Nov. 2, and Nov. 9. This week he will be continuing his series from Fr. Thomas Dubay on Deep Conversion/Deep Prayer. It is based on a series produced by EWTN. There will be no mass or confession while Father is away but please come and enjoy a meal and faith formation with your parish family. This week's menu will be spaghetti, salad, and rolls.

Funeral Mass for Maggie Owens

Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022, 11 am, St. Mary's

Long-time parishioner Maggie Owens passed away recently. There will be a Funeral Mass for her on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 11 am. There will be also an interment at St. Mary's Cemetery immediately following and a luncheon provided by our parish in St. Mary's Parish Hall. You can read Maggie's obituary in this week's Chewelah Independent newspaper.

Community Thanksgiving Dinner

Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022, 4 pm, St. Mary's

The Chewelah Faith Resource Group, an ecumenical group consisting of representatives from several local faith and resource organizations, will be hosting a community Thanksgiving dinner at St. Mary of the Rosary on Thursday, Nov. 10 beginning at 4 p.m. The entire community is invited to enjoy a free meal full of all the traditional Thanksgiving favorites. Please come or let us know if you would like to volunteer in any way. There's volunteers needed for set up, serving, dishes, and clean up. Donations are also welcome! Contact the office by email or phone to help. See you there!

Ladies Auxiliary Crystalline Luncheon

Tickets now available! Saturday, November 19

The Ladies Auxiliary is planning the annual Crystalline Luncheon, a popular women's gathering at our parish, for Saturday, Nov. 19 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's parish hall. Please let Kellie Trudeau know if you would be interested in hosting a table or volunteering in any way. Each table host, or cohosts, can set up their table however they like using their nicest china or most creative decorating skills. It's up to you! There is always door prizes, yummy food, and even a fun contest to vote for audience favorites. Guest tickets are $15 and are now available in the office.
