Friends, in today’s Gospel, we see Jesus sparring with the Sadducees about the general resurrection of the dead. The discussion is an important one, since we Christians place Jesus’ own Resurrection at the center of our faith.
What’s important in this Gospel passage is affirming that the resurrection is a bodily event. Notice how, in the accounts of Jesus’ particular Resurrection, the concrete, physical reality of the Lord is continually emphasized. This confirms that what we await, as Paul said, is a spiritualized body, a transformed, elevated body, a body raised to a new key and a new dimension—but it will be a body.
For this reason, we reverence and respect the bodies of our deceased brothers and sisters with a proper burial. Especially in this month of November, we also remember and place our hope that one day those whose graves we visit will be seen again face to face in the glory of the resurrection.

Did you know that there is an official daily prayer of the Church that priests and religious make a promise to pray? Known as the Divine Office (or in its modern form, The Liturgy of the Hours), this prayer was traditionally chanted (sung) in Latin by both clergy and religious alike and it was customary for many parishes to pray it with the people on Sunday Evenings (Vespers). Taking up this custom once again, please come and join Fr. Hynes, Deacon Paul Born and the seminarians of St. John's Seminary as they chant Traditional Solemn Vespers here at St. Catherine's on Sunday, Nov 13 @ 4:30pm in the church.

Advent Holy Hour and Guided Meditation: Tuesdays of Advent @ 7:00 PM
Advent is a special time for us to walk with Joseph and Mary as they prepare to receive the Savior of the World into their arms and into their family. As an aid to help us enter more deeply into the spirit of the season, Fr. Hynes will be leading the parish in a weekly Holy Hour and Guided Meditation on the Tuesdays of Advent: Nov 29, Dec 6, Dec 13, & Dec 20 @ 7:00 PM in the church.

Fr. Hynes is looking for volunteers who can help us start and coordinate Coffee and Donuts after the 9:00 AM Mass. As a way to encourage attendance he's promised to read a children's book for the first four weeks if we can find enough volunteers to continue offering Coffee and Donuts each week.
