My brothers and sisters in Christ, we are called to be Christians, and we have the responsibility to be good citizens. In addition to the content that will be shared during the HCAR 2.0 session on the Catholic Church, please review the below content before signing on. This will allow us to have more time to engage in a fruitful conversation during the session.
First, review the accompanying PDF that sets out major milestones in the history of Black Catholics in the United States.
During the HCAR 2.0 session we will focus on a few of these milestones and reflect on their lingering effects in the Church today.
Second, please view the following two clips from Black Faith Matters. This document shares some experiences of African American Catholics in the United States and some of the hurt that racism in the Church has caused.

Third, should you have the time and desire to view the entire address, please watch Sister Thea Bowman’s 1989 address to the United States Bishops. In her address, she shares what it means to be Black and Catholic. We call your attention to the material between the 10 and 15 minute mark.
What is needed, and what we are calling for, is a genuine conversion of heart, a conversion that will compel change, and the reform of our institutions and society. Conversion is a long road to travel for the individual. Moving our nation to a full realization of the promise of liberty, equality, and justice for all is even more challenging. However, in Christ we can find the strength and the grace necessary to make that journey. - US Bishops
