Jay opened our meeting by sharing thoughts about his mother‘s recent move into Westminster and about the equity of peoples' chances of being able to live there, followed by our praying a Hail Mary together.
The agenda overview included committee reports and our RE&J meeting time.
Committee reports
Gospel Mass which we would like to have in the spring of 2023 at St. Tom’s
Zelda shared that Fr. John Bosco’s secretary told her that Father would be returning the day before or the day of our meeting. Since Father is at Saint Rita’s on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Zelda will call on Thursday to see about scheduling an appointment with him.
Racism as a Public Health Crisis
Mary shared information about her Embrace Grace group and the fact that Facebook is a good way to reach women who need the support of that group and other similar organizations. The support Embrace Grace offers to women concludes after a baby shower is held for them.
Food Finders Fresh Market Pantry
Barb had good responses from a Flocknote posting and from the information she had published in our St. Thomas bulletin. Twenty-two people signed up to work at the pantry periodically. There are St. Thomas pantry shifts on Wednesdays from 12:45 to 3:45 PM and Saturdays from11:45 to 2 PM.
Prayers of the Faithful/ Homily Talking Points for our Priests
We are still looking forward to having a volunteer who will lead this committee.
Future Educational Programming
Eileen does have committee members, but would still like a co-chair with good organizational skills and a sharp eye for details. Rather than working on a way to rejuvenate the Dorothy Day lectures, Eileen hopes to start with a smaller project. We are confident there are excellent presenters available in our home area. We are wondering about the possibility of Dr. John F. Gates, the vice chair of Purdue's Diversity and Inclusion department, as a potentially inspiring presenter. We discussed an excellent resource similar to a 2-hour TED talk entitled Who We Are.
Our next meeting was to be held Tuesday, December 6, but an interesting presidential lecture featuring former President George W. Bush is to be held on that same evening. Since several members indicated an interest in going to that lecture, our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 7 at St. Tom’s.
Our closing prayer was offered by Brian.
