Happy Thanksgiving!
This time of year is such a great time to spend with family and friends and to make a point of saying thank you.
One of the things my spiritual director said that he learned over the years, and he's always been encouraging me to, is do we say thank you to God for our challenges? I don't. Challenges are hard for me, and I don't like them, and I find myself in them all the time and wishing that I didn't have to face them. At the same time, looking back, I can say how much I've grown because of the challenges that the Lord has entrusted to me. And a lot of times, how much I've been blessed.
One of our parishioners gave me a reflection which they wrote when they were very sick. They said, “my season of grace. I could have called it my season of suffering, for it truly was, but that's not how I remember it; it was my season of grace."
On this Thanksgiving let’s thank Jesus for what we don’t notice, and also for the challenges. Thank Jesus for family and friends, for a warm home, for people who love you, for the little blessings God’s given us. Never miss out on an opportunity to give thanks to God.
My prayers and blessings are with all of you as we celebrate Thanksgiving. May this be a season where gratitude overwhelms our hearts.
God bless you,
Fr. Matt
