Samuel J. Shambro Jr., 86 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Sam was born on Tuesday, November 19, 1935 in Venice, Illinois; the son of the late Samuel and Angela (Butch) Shambro. Sam worked in the shipping and receiving department at Laclede Steel and South West Steel and proudly served his country in the Missouri Army National Guard Reserves. He was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City, a member of the Tri City Knights of Columbus and a member of the Italian American Club. In his free time, Sam enjoyed his days working crossword puzzles, Sudoku puzzles and playing fantasy baseball. He liked sitting outside and especially loved spending time with his family. Sam will be remembered for the love of his family and all the special times they shared together.
Sam is survived by and will be missed by his wife; Barbara (Kutzera) Shambro, whom he married on October 12, 1963; children, Ken (Laura) Shambro of Bridgeton, MO, Julie (Scott) Norman of Galva, IL, Ron (Heather) Shambro of Tuscaloosa, AL, Kathleen (Joe) Kleinschmidt of Edwardsville, IL; grandchildren, Allison (Vince) Coiro, Brian (Chrissy) Shambro, Maria Shambro, Sarah Norman, Sasha Norman, Hannah Shambro, Molly Shambro, Claire Shambro, Holden Shambro, Reece Kleinschmidt, Adam Kleinschmidt, Samuel Kleinschmidt; great-grandchildren, Louis Coiro and Ambrose Coiro; brother, Bill (Afton) Shambro of Belleville, IL.
In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia Ann Niles, Anna Shambro; brothers, James T. Shambro and Richard Shambro.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of Samuel’s life, funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2300 Pontoon Road in Granite City with Fr. Alfred Tumwesigye officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorial donations are suggested for masses.
