God wants us to be happy. Instead of looking at the Ten Commandments as being restrictive and telling us what we can’t do, look at them as a guide for living a joy-filled and peaceful life. Most of our problems arise when we put our own needs first or we spend most of our time trying to acquire more possessions. Instead, try putting God first in all things. We were made for God. Open your heart and let Him in!

Dios quiere que seamos felices. En lugar de ver los Diez Mandamientos como restrictivos y diciéndonos lo que no podemos hacer, míralos como una guía para vivir una vida llena de alegría y paz. La mayoría de nuestros problemas surgen cuando ponemos nuestras propias necesidades en primer lugar o pasamos la mayor parte de nuestro tiempo tratando de adquirir más posesiones. En su lugar, trata de poner a Dios primero en todas las cosas. Fuimos hechos para Dios. ¡Abre tu corazón y déjalo entrar!
A THANKSGIVING MESSAGE
Dear Friends in Christ,
It's that time of year again, and I wanted to take a moment to wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving come November 24th!
Even though much has changed since the first feast of Thanksgiving, the reason for the celebration remains the same. God provides for His children and is still worthy of our offerings of gratitude. As you gather around the Thanksgiving table, I hope that you and your family will take a moment to reflect upon what you are incredibly grateful for in your lives. As a Priest, I am thankful for your commitment to discipleship, including your presence, prayers, and support of St. Finn Barr Parish.
Please join us for Thanksgiving Day Mass on November 24th at 9:00 am. As part of our SFB tradition, we donate the proceeds from the Thanksgiving Day Mass collection to charities that serve the poor and homeless. This year will be no different in helping those without food or shelter this winter. Please consider donating $20 (or more) at Thanksgiving.
May you find great joy in giving thanks to God for the blessings in your life, and may the peace of God that passes all understanding keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus! Please pray for me as I pray for you, your loved ones, and your intentions.

Background on the Gospel Reading
Today as a Church, we conclude our liturgical year and celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. The Gospel we proclaim shows the great mystery of our faith: In the moment of his crucifixion, Jesus is shown to be King and Savior of all.
Luke's Gospel has been loaded with surprises: the poor are rich, sinners find salvation, the Kingdom of God is found in our midst.
Here we see the greatest surprise of all. We are confronted with the crucified Jesus, whom faith tells us is King and Savior of all. The irony is that the inscription placed on the cross, perhaps in mockery, contains the profoundest of truth.
As the leaders jeer, the thief crucified by his side recognizes Jesus as Messiah and King, and finds salvation.
Jesus is King, but not the kind of king we might have imagined or expected. His kingship was hidden from many of his contemporaries, but those who had the eyes of faith were able to see.
As modern disciples of Jesus, we, too, struggle at times to recognize Jesus as King. Today's Gospel invites us to make our own judgment. With eyes of faith, we, too, recognize that Jesus, the crucified One, is indeed King and Savior of all.

Antecedentes de la lectura del Evangelio
Hoy como Iglesia, concluimos nuestro año litúrgico y celebramos la Fiesta de Cristo Rey. El Evangelio que proclamamos muestra el gran misterio de nuestra fe: en el momento de su crucifixión, Jesús se muestra Rey y Salvador de todos.
El Evangelio de Lucas ha estado cargado de sorpresas: los pobres son ricos, los pecadores encuentran la salvación, el Reino de Dios se encuentra en medio de nosotros. Aquí vemos la mayor sorpresa de todas. Estamos frente a Jesús crucificado, de quien la fe nos dice que es Rey y Salvador de todos. La ironía es que la inscripción colocada en la cruz, quizás como burla, contiene la más profunda de las verdades. Mientras los líderes se burlan, el ladrón crucificado a su lado reconoce a Jesús como Mesías y Rey, y encuentra la salvación.
