Hello everyone! This weekend is the last weekend of the liturgical year. As we near the end, it calls to mind the end of this world, so the Church reminds us that Jesus is the King of the Universe. He reigns over all, so we have nothing to fear, not even death itself. As Jesus hangs on the cross, he is reviled and mocked, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!” Unbeknownst to them, he receives his crown on the cross. With his resurrection, he defeats death, our last enemy. Those who reject Jesus, reject his gift of the resurrection. Those, like the good thief, who humbly ask for His mercy, will receive it. “Jesus, from the throne of his cross, welcomes every human being with infinite mercy” - Pope Benedict XVI.
Thank you to all those who worked the Veteran’s Day Bazaar. It was nice to have people eating in. Thank you especially to Bob and Donna Lamb for their time, talent, and energy in running the Bazaar. Congratulations to all winners of the theme baskets!
I met with both parish councils together on Wednesday evening. With Fr. Jeffrey leaving, here is the new weekday Mass schedule between both parishes, effective immediately:
New Weekday Mass schedule
Tuesdays: 5:30pm at Our Lady of Lourdes (OLL)
Wednesdays: 9am at Immaculate Conception Church (ICC)
Thursdays: 9am at ICC
Fridays: 9am at OLL
The weekend Mass schedule remains the same.
NB: The weekday Mass for next week at OLL will be a bit different from the normal schedule. We will have Mass on Tuesday and Thursday, but not Friday. Msgr. Stephan Moloney will say the Thanksgiving Day Mass. I will be at ICC on Wednesday and Thursday.
Please also note, the schedule in the ICC bulletin has yet to be updated.
First Saturday Masses
We will have a First Saturday Mass on December 3rd. After that, we will no longer be having a First Saturday Mass.
Confessions at OLL
Because I will now be saying the Masses at both 4pm and 5:30pm on Saturdays, I will not be able to hear confessions at OLL at 5pm. Please remember that I still hear confessions at OLL from 6-7pm on Tuesdays or by appointment.
Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (Holy Day of Obligation) schedule:
Dec 7: vigil Mass at 5:30pm at ICC
Dec 7: vigil Mass at 7pm at OLL
Dec 8: Mass at 9am at ICC
Dec 8: Mass at 5:30pm at OLL
Christmas Masses:
Dec 24: vigil Mass at 5:30pm at OLL (children's choir)
Dec 24: vigil Mass at 8pm at ICC (adult choir)
Dec 24: Midnight Mass at 12am at OLL
Dec 25: Mass at 10am at ICC (please note that this is Sunday morning, so it is a change from the regular Sunday schedule)
I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving this week!
Catholic Campaign for Human Development collection this weekend
In the United States, more than 11% of the population lives in poverty. With this collection, you support programs that address the root causes of poverty and provide a sustainable future for those struggling across the country Please prayerfully consider how you can support this collection and support those working on the margins. You may donate using your envelopes or online at our websites.
Jesse Tree presentation November 27th at OLL
All are invited to join the PSR students and families for their "Jesse Tree Live" skit on Sunday, November 27th at 10 AM in the church. After the skit, advent-related crafts and activities will be available in the hall, and there will be brunch following Mass at noon. If you'd be willing to donate a dish for brunch, please sign up in the narthex.
Choir loft lighting at OLL
Thanks to Steve Johnson for his continual work on the ceiling below the choir loft at OLL. This weekend, the new recessed lighting will be in and functional. We hope this will allow people to come in and read or pray with lights when it is dark outside since we usually keep the main church lights off when not in use. That light switch is on the back wall next to the stairway up to the choir loft. The church is usually unlocked from 8am – 8pm (give or take an hour).
Nativity Displays at the Diocesan Museum
The diocesan Museum of Catholic Art and History will have their annual display of Nativity sets. Come be inspired and see their nearly 500 Nativity sets representing cultures from all over the world.
