Dear Friends,
You may have noticed at Mass, the increase of people receiving the Eucharist while kneeling instead of standing. You may be wondering why people do this and what is considered acceptable by the Church...
The Church allows us to receive Communion in four ways. We can receive the Eucharist on the tongue or in our hands while standing. Or, we can receive the Eucharist on the tongue or in our hands while kneeling.
Many of you have asked me my opinion on this matter. My answer is rather simple. It is good to ponder the way in which we receive our Lord in Holy Communion. This act is one of the most sacred, intimate, and profound actions which we engage in throughout our lives. If you have never received communion kneeling, then feel free to give it a try and pray about it afterwards. You may find it spiritually enriching and beneficial.
This topic was discussed recently at a prayer and worship meeting and I was so grateful for the thoughtful discussion about the topic from the members of that committee. We determined that there is a need at our parishes to support those who currently kneel to receive communion, and also to assist those who would like to kneel, but are unable to do so without assistance.
Beginning the first weekend of Advent, you will notice a slight change in options for you to receive communion at both Saint Frances Cabrini and Saint Mary's Parishes. There will be two kneelers placed at the front of the Church. During communion, the ministers of communion will stand at the kneelers to distribute. Simply approach the minister as normal. If you choose to receive standing, then you will approach the kneeler and stand in front of it and receive. If you wish to kneel, then kneel on the kneeler. I should note that there will not be kneelers placed in the transepts at Saint Mary’s or at the side communion stations at Saint Frances Cabrini. Thus, communion in those areas will not be affected. It is only for the main body of the Church at Saint Mary’s and those who come up for communion in the center aisle at Saint Frances Cabrini that will be affected by the kneelers. If one wishes to use the kneelers, then I encourage you to sit in the center rows. If down the line there is a desire for more kneelers, we can have that discussion.

Though the encouragement of our faithful pastor Fr Nathan, and various other clergy throughout the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, I made the decision to “cast out into the deep” and apply to St. Francis de Sales Seminary. By His holy providence He has permitted me, His unworthy servant, to be admitted to formation as a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and will begin studies in May of 2023. I ask for your prayers as I continue to seek the voice of the Lord. By His grace, and if it be in accord with His holy will, I will one day be His priest. Know of my prayers for you and your family.

Saint Mary’s will again be doing Prison Fellowship ANGEL TREE on November 20th after Mass. You can pick an Angel from the tree, register it with a volunteer, purchase gift indicated and return gift by December 4th. Gifts will be delivered to the prisoner’s children with a message of love and good news of Jesus in the name of incarcerated parents.

MINISTRY OF THE MONTH...Saint Vincent DePaul Society
The purpose is to grow in spirituality and the mission is to help the poor. Neighbors in need of rent, energy payments or other necessities call the SVDP store. The information is passed onto a member, known as the Vincentian. The member calls the neighbor and makes an appointment for a home visit. Visits are made in pairs. Once needs are addressed, prayers are shared with the family. At meetings we have a short spiritual study and discuss any issues that need to be addressed. Meetings are held in the Holy Angels church basement at 6:30 pm on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. Anyone interested is welcome to come.
