Dear Parishioners,
Thanksgiving Schedule
Join us for Mass inside our church on Thursday and Friday at 8 AM. The church will be closed after Mass each day. The holy hour and confessions are cancelled on Friday. The office will be closed both days. Enjoy time with your family and friends.
St. Clement's House
Today we celebrate the feast of St. Clement, the fourth pope. He lived in a house near the 2003 picture above. Notice the Coliseum in the background. Catholics were being martyred as St. Clement ministered as pope. He himself died a martyr too. Fr. Fred Miller celebrated Mass for us seminarians inside the
Basilica of St. Clement. We toured the original basilica buried under the current one. We also visited the 1st century buildings buried below the original basilica. We visited St. Clement's house.
Catechetical Series on the Eucharist
The same Eucharist that St. Clement celebrated is the same one we celebrate today. See all five parts of Bishop O'Connell's
Catechetical Series on the Eucharist. I just watched the video versions of parts 4 & 5.
Thanksgiving
The Greek word Eucharistia means thanksgiving. How fitting that we celebrate Thanksgiving in our country this Thursday. There's so much we can be thankful for in our country. Likewise and more importantly, we are thankful to Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, for giving Himself to us in the Eucharist.
Mending Political Chasms
Prayer
Considering the state of our country and the state of the Church on Earth, we have much to be grateful for and much to pray for.
1) In thanksgiving for all the blessings of being in our country.
2) In thanksgiving to Jesus Christ for giving Himself to us in the Eucharist.
3) For mending of political chasms in our country.
4) For greater faithfulness among fellow Catholics around the world.
5) For families and friends as we celebrate Thanksgiving here in these United States.
God love you,
Fr. Jim
