VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Being so distracted that one does not notice God’s presence in daily life is a warning sign that one is not being vigilant enough, Pope Francis cautioned.

Vigilance during Advent is key, Pope Francis said, because Jesus “warns us: there is the danger of not realizing his coming and being unprepared for his visit.”

Speaking to pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square for the recitation of the Angelus prayer on the first Sunday of Advent, Nov. 27, Pope Francis urged Christians to be watchful for the signs of God’s presence in ordinary life.

“God is hidden in our life,” Pope Francis explained; “he is concealed in the most common and most ordinary situations in our life.”

ticket to this worthy cause. Needy families are selected with the

help from Luke Air Force Base.

As some of you remember we were able to raise over $170,000 last year for our St Vincent de Paul conference of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish. During this past year these funds have been hard at work caring for our families in need.

We were able to help nearly 400 individuals in various financial ways. We are so grateful we did not have to turn anyone away due to lack of funds. Thank you to everyone who gave and made this possible.

This year we are SO EXCITED to announce that two families are gains offering matching funds, up to $50,000 each, for our St. Vincent de Paul end of year drive. If St. Gabriel parishioners raise $50,000 then two parish families will each match this for a total of $150,000!

St. Vincent de Paul will be handing out envelopes at the end of Masses on November 19 and 20. ALL donations made up to December 31, 2022 will be matched. You may donate with FaithDirect, or by check (made out to St. Vincent de Paul) or cash placed in the SVdP envelope and placed in the weekend collection baskets, in the SVdP donation box in the church Narthex, or dropped off or mailed to the parish office.

We have until December 31 to reach our goal.
