Giving Tuesday -- November 29, 2022
Dear Parishioners of St. Joseph:
This past Friday was "Black Friday" and yesterday was "Cyber Monday." Today, is "Giving Tuesday."
Thank you all for your incredible generosity, especially as it pertains to your own personal giving to the parish. As we move into the Advent and Christmas seasons, this Giving Tuesday gives us an opportunity to remind ourselves of the importance of giving and growing in a heart of generosity. I wanted to offer you this, so everyone could be aware of the many ways you could help support some of our ministries, especially on Giving Tuesday and as you might be considering your tax planning for the end of the year.
Below are listed some opportunities and options at St. Joseph where you can give financially.
iGiveCatholic - We're currently participating in this program with several other Churches and Schools in the Diocese of Jackson. This year we're using this platform to raise money for new LED lights in the Church. You can give either by donating through the iGiveCatholic Platform:
https://jackson.igivecatholic.org/organizations/st-joseph-catholic-church-starkvilleOr you can also give directly to us, through OSV and make a note. You can also send a check directly to the parish office or use one of the iGiveCatholic envelopes that are in the back of the church.
Parish Offertory: Of course, you can always give to the regular parish collection.

You can give online, or you can drop your donation off at the Parish Office or you can leave it in the locked mailbox outside the office. Or you can mail it to us at 607 University Drive, Starkville, MS 39759. You can also contact your financial institution about the Bill Pay features they may offer for your use.
CCM - Your support is vital for the success of our mission to serve our students. We are so thankful to the many parishioners, parents, and benefactors who have generously supported our program over the years allowing us to continue offering this great ministry to our students. Here's the link to give to CCM:
https://msstateccm.org/giveConsider signing up for a monthly gift and joining the mug club, even if only as little as $25 per month for parishioners and $10 per month for students. This will help CCM in an ENORMOUS WAY!
Amazon Smile – St. Joseph is now established as an Amazon Smile organization. When you click the link below and choose St. Joseph as your preferred charity, it will benefit Campus Ministry at Mississippi State University. After that, go to
Smile.Amazon.com at every purchase and 0.5% of eligible purchases will come back to CCM at Mississippi State University.

Food Pantry- The St. Joseph Food Pantry is always in need of Time, Talent, and Treasure. Contact Joe Schmidt if you'd like to come and help with bagging or distribution, or in other ways. You can also help provide funding for this important ministry by giving here:

Adopt-a-Family Christmas Tree - The Adopt-a-family Christmas Tree is in the Gathering Space in the Church. I wanted to offer a thanks to all of you because of the generous way you've responded in taking care of these in one weekend!
Mass Intentions – Mass Intentions are an offering that can be made at the request of a someone for a particular person or need. Often, this request is made after someone dies for the repose of that person’s soul. This can be a few days or weeks later or on the anniversary of someone’s death.
Tribute and Memorial Gifts – Honor family members and friends by making a donation to St. Joseph Catholic Church parish in his or her name. Tribute gifts are meaningful and unique ways to honor birthdays, baptisms, confirmations, anniversaries or any special occasion. We will notify the honoree of your thoughtful gift with a card. You will receive acknowledgement of the donation for your records. We will forward these gifts to the Parish Endowment so that your gift may live on.
Catholic Foundation - We have two Trusts at the Catholic Foundation. The St. Joseph Catholic Church Endowment, which at this time last year had a principal balance of about $23,942.41. The other trust is the Dean Allen McGhee Memorial Trust Fund. The principal balance is about $29,746.81. Dean McGhee was a Mississippi State Student who died at a far too young age. His memory lives on in this gift that his parents, family, and friends have established to benefit Christian Campus Ministry for students attending Mississippi State University. Please let us know if you'd like to help contribute to either of these Trusts. The Columbarium Trust is a new trust with the Catholic Foundation and there is currently around $7,000 in this trust.
Legacy Giving - You may consider making a provision in your estate plans, trusts, annuities, stocks and securities, retirement plans, insurance policies or endowments to support St. Joseph Catholic Church. Naming St. Joseph as a beneficiary is a legally simple process, your assets remain in your control, and you can change your designations if your needs change. It is important to note that if you leave retirement plan assets from a 403(k) or traditional IRA to loved ones, they must pay income tax on the funds when they are received. However, assets left to St. Joseph are not depleted by taxes, because we are a qualifying charitable organization. To achieve your personal and charitable goals, perhaps consider leaving appreciating assets such as stock or real estate to loved ones, and other retirement assets to St. Joseph. Our parish would be very grateful.
Peace,
Fr. Jason
