New Worship Service! Wednesday Evening Worship!
A lot of people spend weekends away from home during summer months, so it is the perfect time to add a mid-week worship option.
Every Wednesday Evening we are coming together for a more casual worship service in the Hopkins UMC sanctuary at 6:30pm. The service will focus around the same scripture, sermon, and prayers as Sunday morning, but will bring in some different music options. We also expect that the service will be a bit shorter than Sunday morning. For those who are unable to worship in person, we will share this service live over Zoom.
Childcare will be provided in the basement of the church.
This is a great option to invite people, outside of our church family, to try out! Let’s spread the word!
December/January Newsletter
Advent
The stories, scriptures, and traditions of the Christmas season have been passed down to us throughout the generations. Many of us enter this season with a swell of memories and emotions as vast as the cultural and religious rituals this holiday holds. Like a tapestry woven throughout time, the Christmas story weaves us in—to remember how God has shown up in the past, to continue the work of collective liberation, to behold the presence of God in flesh and bone. The work of God is always unfolding—in and through us. This Advent, may you remember that you belong—to a story etched into the wrinkles of time, to generations that have come before and will come after, to a love that won’t let you go.
There are a few ways you can engage in our Advent series. We have a daily devotional that will be sent week by week here in the Flocknote. Ask Mitzi or Pastor Kelsey if you would like a printed copy.

Crafting!
Every Sunday after worship during Advent there will be a craft for us to do together. You can choose to take them home with you or decorate our hall with it leading up to Christmas. The main supplies will be provided, there are a few things that you will be asked to bring from home if you have them to make things easier. All of the crafts are accessible for all ages, we can all give it a try!
Here is the extra supplies you could bring for this week:
- Ribbons!
- Darker blues or purples, gold, white
- Satin or cloth so they can be written on
Things for coming weeks:
- Images of the nativity (from old X-mas cards, magazines, printed, stickers, old Sunday school materials, etc.)
- Printed or copied photos of people you have seen God through (these will be cut up and glued)
- Any fun scrap paper in blues, purples, cardstock, wrapping paper, magazines, etc.
- White or gold gel pens
- Scrap fabric in blues, purples, and golds (to be made into short strips (¼ to ¾ wide)
- Scrap yarn or string
- Wire cutters (will go back home with you at the end of the series)
- Hot glue gun
During Advent there will be daily posts on our church Facebook page that correspond with the devotional or other content for each week of Advent. It is a great place to engage with the Advent content from home, to interact with each other about the devotionals, or to easily share something meaningful that has stuck with you this week from the series.
Worship Wednesday Returns!
We are taking a break with Worship Wednesday through the holidays, but will come back in the new year! We will continue our schedule of every 4th Wednesday of the month, starting January 25th.
We always need help in the kitchen and would love someone else to lead the lesson!
If you can't help on the night, invite those with young kids to come! All are welcome to join us!
Fellowship & Craft with Us!
We are hosting a gathering every first and third Thursdays of the month, 3-5pm in HUM Hall, to fellowship and craft together. Crafts or activities of any kind are welcome if you can bring them: Knit, Crochet, paper crafts, sewing, etc! (Or no craft at all!) Feel free to bring snacks, beverages, or just yourself! Come hang out with us!
Senior Meals
Seniors meals is going great! Every Mon., Wed., & Fri. at noon in HUM Hall. Suggested donation: $3. Join together with our community for food and fellowship.
Join before the meal for fellowship activities.

Loose Change through Christmas will go to the Detroit Children's Home.
