Come every week or just as your schedule allows - join us on Zoom at 7:30am for morning prayer. The prayer time lasts about 20 minutes, and has become a weekly habit for the past two years for about a dozen. It is a friendly, welcoming group and we love to see new faces!
December Service Project:
Advent Giving Tree
The Cathedral's annual Advent Giving Tree project is underway. If you would like to participate in this project, you will be able to take one or more ornaments from the tree at the Cathedral entrance, and then drop off the requested items under the tree, with the ornament attached. Financial gifts can be dropped off in the collection baskets or at the Cathedral office (please write checks to Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, with the organization in the memo line.)

“Is it not I, Your Mother, Who is Here?”:
A Holy Hour in Commemoration of Our Lady of Guadalupe
Tuesday, December 13 | 6:00–7:00 p.m.
Each month, a holy hour takes place that includes exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Scripture, sacred music, silent prayer, and benediction. The holy hour is a way to deepen one’s love and appreciation for the Eucharist, which is Christ himself.
This month’s holy hour will focus on Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose feast day is observed on December 12. On the outskirts of Mexico City in 1531, the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Juan Diego (1474–1548), saying to him, “Do not let your heart be troubled, and let nothing upset you. Is it not I, your Mother, who is here?”

RCIA Dinner
A simple, yet powerful way you can be involved is to help provide a light dinner for the RCIA sessions. Breaking bread together is the way we begin each week. Please consider signing up to provide a light dinner for one of the Tuesday night sessions.
Adult Confirmation is for Catholic adults who have already received Baptism and First Holy Communion. The Cathedral will have preparation sessions in the parish office on the following dates at 6:00 p.m.:

Children’s Pageant & Blessing of the Nativity

Children's Choir
The Children’s Choir resumes and will sing at the 4:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass. Consisting of students from 2nd through 8th grades, the choir will be led by Mrs. Amy Hruska, a Cathedral parishioner with over forty years of music education experience. The 2022 Diocesan Appeal
This year, like every year, the Cathedral participates in the Annual Diocesan Appeal. The Appeal is the yearly opportunity for us to engage the next generation, provide for those in need and build Catholic communities. Not only does it support the larger ministries of the Catholic Church of Richmond, it also raises funds for the local priorities of our parish.
As in the 2021 Appeal, the Cathedral will receive a significantly increased parish-sharing formula: 50 percent of the amount collected up to our target of $50,000, and 90 percent of the amount above the target. Bishop Knestout has granted this unprecedented ratio of parish sharing to fund two priorities:
- Cathedral Organ Project (70 percent of funds returned to the parish)
- Cathedral ministries and other expenses (30 percent of funds returned to the parish)
As this year’s Appeal begins, we encourage each of you to support not only our parish offertory, which directly supports our parish, but also we ask you to prayerfully consider giving to the Annual Diocesan Appeal.
