The Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary (12-08-2022):
(At the Vigil Mass, 12-07-2022)
This week we celebrate the Immaculate Conception of Mary, the mother of our Lord. In 1854, Pope Pius IX solemnly proclaimed: “The most Blessed Virgin Mary, in the first instant of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege granted by almighty God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the savior of the human race, was preserved free from all stain of original sin.” Our scripture readings, hymns and songs proclaim this truth.
Third Sunday of Advent (12-11-2022):
The Third Sunday of Advent is also known as Gaudete Sunday. Gaudete means rejoice in Latin. The origin of Gaudete Sunday comes from the bible verse Philippians 4:4: “
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Indeed the Lord is near.” In the hymns and scripture readings we see themes of joy, an emotion that can be experienced through God's love.
