Over the next several weeks, our parish will be preparing for Consecration to the Holy Family. We encourage all to prepare for this consecration that will take place on the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, February 2nd, in the church during a special Mass at 6:30 pm.

Information from the pulpit, bulletin and "Connections" articles will be given on how to prepare our families for this consecration. In addition brochures and prayer cards will also be given out after all the weekend Masses.

Bible Study for Women!

Many Catholics want to read the Bible but get bogged down by the long stretches that seem not to make sense or get lost among the sea of Old Testament names and places. Our class here at St. Gabriel the Archangel parish begins the Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible studyon January 24 at 9:00 am in the St. Gabriel Room (upstairs in the Faith Formation building). Participants will meet most every week to view an engaging video presentation followed by a time of lively group discussion and fellowship.

That Man is You! will be starting shortly on Friday, January 27th at 6:30 am in the Faith Formation building - St. Gabriel Room. The program is entitled: THE LIGHT OF MEN and features dynamic Catholic Speakers who will challenge you to grow in your holiness.

Start our day off in fellowship before going off to work or starting your day along with your spiritual director Father David Kulandaisamy.

Now is the time to join other men both single and married of St. Gabriel and learn how to claim your royal dignity and inheritance as the spiritual leaders of our families.

Vibrant Vinnies!

“We are the hands and feet of Jesus.”

It was the vision of Ling Patty and Shirley Smalley, two Vincentians, that started a Vibrant Vinnies conference in 2013 and we have remained one of the few youth conferences in the country. We are fully aggregated through the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and our conference is fifth through eighth graders. We have over 25 members. Our meetings include prayers, Gospel reflections, and education about he Society and issues of poverty. We learn that faith and service are one seamless garment woven together by Christian love and fellowship.

Some of our projects:

Serve boxes of food to neighbors at St. Joan of Arc’s food pantry
Help at St. Vincent de Paul Hope Chest Thrift Store
Help sort food at the Warehouse downtown at Watkins
Prepare Thanksgiving bags for Foothills Food bank
We assist and host Clothing drives and shoe drives
We host the school wide food drive which brings in more than 800 pounds of food
We collect backpacks and bandaids for the homeless
We purchase and assemble 200 Christmas stockings for the poor children and pass them out at St. Bernadette’s Christmas party
We assist at the Dream Center with homemwork help and crafts
We assemble and pass out blessings bags for the homeless on our streets at Sunnyslelpe
We serve pizza to the families of working poor at Watkins Dining room
We play Bingo at Ozanam Manor with the disabled and Veterans
Help at the St. Vincent de Paul Urban Farm

We go wherever we are needed. We know as Vincentians that the love

of Christ impels us to the poor.

If you ask any Vibrant Vinnie, why they are a part of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, they will hopefully reply, “to grow in holiness.” All of these children want to be a part of making the world a better place.

The world has changed in many ways, but to the children of Vibrant Vinnies, our mission of serving has not stopped, and is more important than ever. We continue to go where we are needed to tirelessly support the working poor and homeless in any way we can. We are never too young to serve and we truly are the hands and feet of Jesus!

St. Vincent de Paul Clothing Drive

On behalf of St. Vincent de Paul, the young Vinnies and the Knights of Columbus, we are having a Clothing Drive the weekend of January 14 & 15. It will be held in the South Parking Lot where there will be a St. Vincent de Paul truck for your drop off before & after each Mass on Saturday, January 14th and Sunday, January 15th.

Your donations will then be distributed to homeless folks at the downtown St. Vincent de Paul dining room the following weekend.

Winter clothing is in great need for both men and women. Special items needed are knit hats, jackets, socks, underwear, and sneakers. Toiletries are always needed: soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes and shampoo.

Homeless men make up approximately 75% of the current homeless needs, and 25% needs are for women.

We thank you in advance for your generous contribution.

The Respecting Life Ministry is offering a pair of Holy Innocent Remembrance Hearts for those who have lost a child. One half of the pair will remain in St. Gabriel’s Memorial for the Innocent Unborn and the other will be for the parents.
