The kids have returned to school ready to go. We have a few events to keep in mind. Next week, students will be taking the A Math and A Reading test. The end of the term is on January 13th. We will be sending home test results and report cards. Third term begins on January 17th. Catholic School week starts on January 29th with a 9 a.m. Mass. Valentine's Day and parties will be on February 14th.
I would like to thank Scarlett's mom. She made the student's a computer game to play to help them learn more about facts and opinions. The kids loved playing the game, and we will continue to play it to help them understand.
Math: We are still working on decimals. We will take our test on Wednesday next week over multiplying decimals than start dividing decimals. Once we finish dividing decimals, we will start our fraction units.
Reading: We have covered so much in reading. I have been testing kids this week to see what they remember . We are also working on Poetry. We are working on vocabulary terms related to poetry, analyzing poetry and eventually we will write poetry. Once we finish our poetry unit we will move to nonfiction reading.
Writing: We are working on fact and opinions, so that we can start writing opinion papers. Students will be given topics to write about where they have to state their opinion than back it up with facts and reasons why they feel the way that they do.
In science, we are still working on our solar system unit. It's not the best time to work on this unit, but we receive great material from the AEA to teach the unit. Once we receive the unit, we have so much time to teach the unit before we receive the next unit to teach. I am using a lot of videos and reading materials to teach. The kids are asking great questions which really helps.
