Epiphany 2023
20+C+M+B+23
Christus Mansionem Benedicat
Casper+Melchior+Balthasar
The traditional House blessing on Epiphany:
Christ bless this house.
A Blessed Epiphany to you!
These two photos taken in Germany on December 6, 2023 show an old tradition.(Also practiced in some other countries) Children and teenagers go from home to home to sing the verses of the story of the Three Kings to the ones who open the various doors, offer to write across the doorframe a blessing 20+C+M+B+23, which means, that Casper, Melchior and Balthasar in form of the children are blessing the house and at the same time stands also for the Latin abreviation Christus mansionem benedicat/Christ bless this house. Once this is done they present the charity project that the Bishops conference of the country has discerned for that year. For 2023 it is called "Support children, protect children: in Indonesia and worldwide." Then they accept a donation for the charity project and leave, with gratitude and generally also some candy and good chocolate!!
Even though we are not in Germany or Austria or Switzerland may our homes be blessed for 2023. May "The singers of the star" come to the doors of our life and bless it with the peace and hope we need and may they invite us to share what we have with those in need.
Happy Epiphany! Julia
