The 27th Annual SACRED HEART SPAGHETTI DINNER will be held Saturday, January 28th from 5:00 – 7:00 in the cafeteria. Tickets will be sold after all Masses in the school hallway, in the Parish Office all week, and at the door on January 29th. BUY YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE AND SAVE $1.00 PER TICKET. There is a sign-up sheet to help with the dinner and to bake desserts located at the ticket table.

THE SERMAN
A member of the church, who previously had been attending services regularly, stopped going. After a few weeks, the pastor decided to visit him.
It was a chilly evening. The pastor found the man at home alone, sitting before a blazing fire. Guessing the reason for his pastor's visit, the man welcomed him, led him to a comfortable chair near the fireplace and waited.
The pastor made himself at home but said nothing. In the grave silence, he contemplated the dance of the flames around the burning logs. After some minutes, the pastor took the fire tongs, carefully picked up a brightly burning ember and placed it to one side of the hearth all alone then he sat back in his chair, still silent.
The host watched all this in quiet contemplation. As the one lone ember's flame flickered and diminished, there was a momentary glow and then its fire was no more. Soon it was cold and dead.
Not a word had been spoken since the initial greeting. The pastor glanced at his watch and realized it was time to leave. He slowly stood up, picked up the cold, dead ember and placed it back in the middle of the fire. Immediately it began to glow, once more with the light and warmth of the burning coals around it.
As the pastor reached the door to leave, his host said with a tear running down his cheek, 'Thank you so much for your visit and especially for the fiery sermon. I will be back in church next Sunday.'
We live in a world today, which tries to say too much with too little. Consequently, few listen. Sometimes the best sermons are the ones left unspoken.

St. Francis Xavier Catholic School System has successfully participated in the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP) since 2013. Today more than 300 students who attend Xavier Catholic Schools tuition-free. This opportunity is open to any family who meet residence and income. For many of these families it has been life-changing.
We encourage all those families of school-aged children to apply for one of the vouchers, with which you will have the opportunity to attend one of our Xavier Catholic schools, at no base tuition charge. The parent application for the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program for the upcoming school year is open Feb. 1 – April 21, and more information can be found on the Wisconsin Dept. of Public Instruction website. The income limit for a married family of 5 can make up to an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $78,434.

Winter Grief Gathering Series
Psalm 147:3 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
A three-week Grief Gathering Series will be offered for any adult who has experienced the loss of a loved one.
The program will be led by Gloria Koth and Tina Poppe, Care Ministry Coordinators from St. Bernadette and St. Therese Parishes.
The gathering will be held at St. Bernadette Parish, 2331 E. Lourdes Drive, Appleton, on Mondays, January 23rd, 30th, and February 6th from 1:30-3:00 pm.
It is important to attend all three sessions. Please call St. Bernadette Parish office at 739-4157 if you plan to attend.
