We cannot carry out this ministry without you. For the fiscal year 2022 we received $88,255 in donations from parishioners through direct donations and fundraisers. In addition, we received $10,000 in grants. Your contributions allowed us to help 723 families in need in our community. $69,981 was given for rental emergencies and $24,542 helped to keep the lights on. An additional $22,464 provided for miscellaneous needs such as food, medicine, and transportation.

Adopt A Seminarian

Please stop by the display in the narthex and learn about the path to priesthood and pray for the men of our diocese that are discerning their call. Be sure to grab a seminarian card to “adopt” and if you haven’t met Seminarian Mike yet- get to know him a bit. He has been assigned to St. Thomas More and will be visiting more on weekends and summers.

Job Opportunity at STM School

Prayer Rally

Rockford Family Initiative will hold a pro-life rally on Saturday, January 21, 11am to 12:15pm, outside the facility at 611 Auburn St., Rockford. The LiFE Office plans to be present to support the pro-life community with free hot chocolate. Please plan on attending.

Through Grief with Mother Mary

Are you or do you know someone who may be stuck in the journey of grief? Maybe it has been weeks, months, years but you still can’t move forward, and it hurts. Learn to reduce the pain of grief while growing your relationship with Mother Mary.

“Through Grief with Mother Mary” is a support group for those grieving the death of a loved one. This grief support group is different from other grief groups in that it honors Mother Mary. We discuss her experience with grief, her 7 Sorrows and ask for her intersession to Jesus for grief healing.

This group is open to men and women who are grieving the loss of a loved one. You need not be a parishioner of St. Thomas More to participate in this group.

Baby Bottle Boomerang

The Corbella Clinic is a haven for women seeking physical, emotional and spiritual needs, empowering them to make positive choices for their unborn child. The Knights of Columbus will be passing out baby bottles to support the center the weekend of Feb 4th & 5th. Please take a bottle and return it the month of February with your donation of coins/ bills or checks. Your support means the world of difference to an unborn child.

St. Blaisé Blessing of the Throats

Following all Masses the weekend of February 4/5 the priest will bless throats in honor of St. Blaisé.

History has it that one day a group of hunters stumbled upon where St. Blaise was living. They found the bishop kneeling in prayer, surrounded by wolves, lions, and bears that he had tamed. The legend has it that as the hunters dragged Blaise off to prison, a mother came with her young son who had a fish bone lodged in his throat. At Blaise’s command, the child was able to cough up the bone and thus lived.

Today we remember the saint on his feast day by taking two candles, crossing them against the throat, and saying the following prayer:

Through the intercession of St. Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from ailments of the throat and from every other evil. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. ©LPi
