EUCHARISTIC PROCESSIONAL CANOPY
A Eucharistic Processional Canopy is carried above the Blessed Sacrament in a procession outdoors. The purpose of the canopy is both theological and practical: it emphasizes the kingship of Christ as His Eucharistic Body is honored in a manner similar to kings of old who were carried in procession on thrones. Further, it calls attention to His presence in a crowd, easily making noticeable where the Blessed Sacrament is located within a Eucharistic Procession. The practical purpose of the canopy is to protect the Blessed Sacrament from falling debris outdoors.
OUR WISH
We wish to obtain this beautiful canopy, (shown below), embroidered with an image of the Holy Spirit for use in upcoming Eucharistic Processions we have planned, with our first use of the canopy hopefully coinciding with the Solemnity of Corpus Christi on June 11, the day in which the church celebrates and recalls the Catholic dogma of Jesus’ True Presence of His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Blessed Sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist.

THE PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY IS CELEBRATING ITS 15TH ANNIVERSARY
The first Prayer Shawl meeting at Holy Spirit Catholic Church was in February 2008. We began with 12 knitters/crocheters in one of the small classrooms.
As of 2022, the Ministry has close to 70 members and they have created and given away over 5600 shawls, lap robes, prayer cloths and pet cloths. Our Ministry Mission is two-fold. First, is to reach out to those who are experiencing stress or sadness due to the loss of a loved one, a serious health issue, feelings of helplessness, isolation or any difficulty of body, mind or spirit. The Second of our two-fold Mission is reaching out to each other in friendship.

MENTAL HEALTH MINISTRY A DIRE NEED ACROSS THE U.S. CHURCH
Another source of inspiration can be found in the Diocese of San Diego, now regarded as a pioneer in mental health ministry programs. The present ministry launched in 2018 at the request of then-Auxiliary Bishop John Dolan.
Fast forward, Bishop Dolan, now bishop of the Diocese of Phoenix, himself lost three siblings and a brother-in-law to suicide. Bishop Dolan note, “Our sisters and brothers coping with mental illness are sitting next to us in the pews during Mass as well as sleeping in the church parking lot at night. … As Catholics, we are called to reach out and embrace all of our brothers and sisters suffering from illnesses, and we need not treat mental illness as different from any other medical condition.”
Forty days following the Feast of the Nativity of the Lord (Christmas), the Church celebrates Candlemas, also known as the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord or the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is when we commemorate the Ever-Virgin Mary first bringing the baby Jesus to the Temple as part of the Jewish ritual custom. As part of an ancient tradition of the Church, there is a special blessing of candles for this day, hence the name.
To celebrate this feast, we will have a candlelit mass at 7pm on Thursday, February 2nd. We invite parishioners to bring to the church new candles they wish to have blessed at the ceremony. If you are bringing a candle, please tag it with your name and arrive to the church no later than 6:50pm. The blessed candles will be available to be picked up following the mass.
