Outer Space
This week we have been learning about Outer Space in school. Here is a little glimpse into what we are currently working on....
Pretend: Astronaut Costumes, Rocket, tools to work on the command center, the house has been converted into Space Command Center with a laptop!
Sensory Table: "The Moon" Black kidney beans, astronauts, scoops, rocket ship and magnetic planets to put in order
Writing Center: toilet paper tubes to make Space ships & space coloring pages
Reading Corner: Puppet Show
Blocks; Wooden blocks and big floor puzzles
We have been working hard on our letters and sounds. These are the letters we have introduced and the ones that your child should be able to look at, tell you what it is called and what it's sound is:
M,m
F,f
D,d
C,c
G,g
B,b
K,k
A,a
S,s
L,l
P,p
If you have not started working on letters at home, now is a good time to start! They will need to know most, if not all letters and sounds for kindergarten. The first few months of kindergarten they review letters, but by November they are jumping into reading simple words. (CVC words) These are the rhyming families: cat, hat, bat or big, pig, dig. If your child is able to identify the letters in the alphabet, this is so much less frustrating for them.
In math we have been counting to 20, and identifying numbers 0-15. This week, we will start learning how to write numbers! We also have been making patterns.
ex: red, blue, red, blue or red red blue, red red blue
We make patterns with many different things: colors, shapes, objects, words, or letters.
It's good to point out pattens when you are out and about. This helps them see them easier and then make their own.
