THE BEATITUDES
Forty days following the Feast of the Nativity of the Lord (Christmas), the Church celebrates Candlemas, also known as the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord or the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is when we commemorate the Ever-Virgin Mary first bringing the baby Jesus to the Temple as part of the Jewish ritual custom. As part of an ancient tradition of the Church, there is a special blessing of candles for this day, hence the name.
To celebrate this feast, we will have a candlelit mass at 7pm on Thursday, February 2nd. We invite parishioners to bring to the church new candles they wish to have blessed at the ceremony. If you are bringing a candle, please tag it with your name and arrive to the church no later than 6:50pm. The blessed candles will be available to be picked up following the mass.
In memory of Saint Blaise, a blessing of throats will be given at the 8am mass on Friday, February 3rd.
CATHOLIC CUSTOMS AND THEIR BIBLICAL ROOTS with Fr. John Clote Thursday, February 9th at 7:00PM

Our Catholic faith is a liturgical faith. It makes use of all five of our senses: sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. This is certainly by design as each sense aids us in availing ourselves of the salvific grace flowing from the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. This is precisely why every effort should be used to employ all of our senses whenever possible during the celebration of the sacred liturgy. In more concise terms, the “smells and bells” most certainly do matter. Catholic popular devotions are well-grounded in Scripture and were practiced by the leading lights of the Catholic intellectual tradition. In this Presentation Fr. John Clote will explain the history and biblical roots of catholic customs including The Sign of the Cross, Holy Water, Incense, Candles, Scapulars and Medals, the Rosary, and Relics.
EUCHARISTIC PROCESSIONAL CANOPY
A Eucharistic Processional Canopy is carried above the Blessed Sacrament in a procession outdoors. The purpose of the canopy is both theological and practical: it emphasizes the kingship of Christ as His Eucharistic Body is honored in a manner similar to kings of old who were carried in procession on thrones. Further, it calls attention to His presence in a crowd, easily making noticeable where the Blessed Sacrament is located within a Eucharistic Procession. The practical purpose of the canopy is to protect the Blessed Sacrament from falling debris outdoors.
OUR WISH
We wish to obtain this beautiful canopy, (shown below), embroidered with an image of the Holy Spirit for use in upcoming Eucharistic Processions we have planned, with our first use of the canopy hopefully coinciding with the Solemnity of Corpus Christi on June 11, the day in which the church celebrates and recalls the Catholic dogma of Jesus’ True Presence of His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Blessed Sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY 15TH ANNIVERSARY 2/8/23
The Holy Spirit Prayer Shawl Ministry will be celebrating its 15th anniversary on February 8, 2023. Since its inception, the Ministry has distributed over 7,500 prayer shawls and lap blankets to parishioners, as well as, to various organizations throughout the Valley such as: Ironwood Cancer Center, Rachel's Vineyard, Grief to Grace Retreat, Emmaus Ministry, Editha House, Christ the King Cancer Center, Red Bird Ministries, Friendship Village, and Diocese of Phoenix Ministries. In addition to these local organizations, the Ministry has also sent shawls to Flagstaff, AZ and Uvalde, TX.
The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets every Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the Social Hall; please join us. With over 40 members attending the meetings or working from home, the shawls and lap blankets are created to comfort those in need. If you know someone who could benefit from this comforting gift, the shawls and lap blankets are available in the Parish office.

The Optimist Park area will be under construction through June 2023. Work includes sidewalks, curbs, valley gutters, milling, paving, and landscaping in the right of way adjacent to some properties. This requires keeping the streets clear.
