Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Happy Catholic Schools Week!
This week is the National Week to celebrate Catholic Schools. This is a time to take pride in the great good our schools do. On Catholic Schools Week, we celebrate/acknowledge all those who have sacrificed their time, effort and money to help us pass on our faith to the next generation. We can never forget the sacrifice our teachers make to teach in Catholic Schools when they could be earning more in a public-school setting. We also acknowledge and celebrate our students who are taking what they are learning and using it to serve in their communities and our Church. Words of gratitude go to volunteers for their love, passion and example in which they inspire the students.
“Kindness is one of the utterly beautiful expressions of our humanity. Everyday kindness, random acts of kindness and heroic moments of kindness banish fear, soothe pain, revive hope and restore our faith in humanity.” (Matthew Kelly, Life is messy p.72).
At Sacred Heart we will celebrate Catholic Schools Week with several activities from January 29 Sunday through to February 4 Saturday. Please be a part of these activities.
We celebrate this coming Catholic Schools Week with joy! Once we take account of all the good that they do and how that good is spreading out into our world, how can we not feel a joy in what we are doing for the world and want to pass this on. Wherever there is a Catholic School in the world, there is an anchor in the community, an anchor of hope for a better future for our youth and our world. There certainly is a lot of challenges in our world, but we cannot forget to celebrate on the way all the good God is doing through our Catholic Schools and work to help them grow.
How blessed we are to have Sacred Heart School which has been promoting the spiritual, moral, physical, and intellectual development of each student in an environment centered on Catholic values since 1912.
On February 3 the Church honors St Blaise a fourth century physician, bishop, and martyr. Moved by the grief of a woman whose son was choking on a fishbone, St Blaise is known to have offered a blessing that cured the child. Ever since, his patronage has been sought by those suffering from afflictions of the throat (or hoping to avoid them). The annual blessing of Throats will be on Friday, February 3rd.
May the peace of Christ reign in your hearts.
Your brother in Christ,
Fr James Khembo
