9am to 12pm - Foundations of Christian Moral Principles (June 18 to June 22 - one week)
This class is not for the faint of heart, but for those teens who are serious about studying the foundational principles of Christian Morality. This class will focus on basic moral principles of Christian moral thinking such as: natural law, the principle of totality, the principle of double effect, proximity to sin, and the problems of situation ethics such as: relativism, consequentialism, proportionalism, and the fundamental option. We will explore modern ethical issues such as sexual morality, just war, and other issues.
In this class students will read and study Part III Section I - of the Catechism of the Catholic which focuses on Principles of Christian Morality. Students will also be expected to read St. John Paul II’s Document Vertatis Splendor (Splendor of Truth) before class begins. Students will be expected to do work outside of the classroom as well.
