BLESSING OF ST. BLAISE - Friday, February 3rd
In memory of Saint Blaise, on Friday, February 3rd, and throughout the weekend masses, the blessing of throats will be given during mass by the priest and or a lay minister with crossed candles.
In the 4th Century, Saint Blaze was in formation to become a physician. But God had different plans. He was called to serve as a follower of Jesus. He subsequently became Bishop of Sebastea. This was during the time of the Roman persecution of Christians. As a Bishop, St. Blaise was arrested for being Christian. It was during this time that a miracle happened. On his way to jail, a woman presented in front of St Blaise her son who was choking on a fish bone. He was able to heal him. However, he was not able to save himself and was beheaded.
BENDICIÓN DE ST. BLAISE - Viernes 3 de Febrero
En memoria de San Blas, el viernes 3 de febrero y durante las misas del fin de semana, la bendición de gargantas se dará durante la misa por el sacerdote y/o un ministro laico con velas cruzadas.
En el siglo IV, Saint Blaze estaba en formación para convertirse en médico. Pero Dios tenía planes diferentes. Fue llamado a servir como seguidor de Jesús. Posteriormente se convirtió en obispo de Sebastea. Esto fue durante la época de la persecución romana de los cristianos. Como obispo, St. Blaise fue arrestado por ser cristiano. Fue durante este tiempo que ocurrió un milagro. De camino a la cárcel, una mujer presentó frente a St Blaise a su hijo que se estaba ahogando con una espina de pescado. Él fue capaz de curarlo. Sin embargo, no pudo salvarse y fue decapitado.
