A Message From Our Pastor
The Catholic Ministries Appeal-2022 ended on December 31, 2022. Thank you for your generosity and stewardship! Here are the final numbers for each parish:

St. Augustine $47,124 $51,969 $ 4,845
St. Augustine will be receiving a rebate of $4,845, which will be returned to the parish for parish use. Sacred Heart will have to pay the difference ($697) out of our operating expenses to make up the shortfall. Ss. Peter and Paul, in accordance with the desires of the finance council, paid the shortfall of ($4,522) before the end of the year out of the operating budget.
This weekend is commitment weekend for the 2023 annual Catholic Ministries Appeal 2023, formerly Fruitful Harvest. The theme for this appeal is “Our Grateful Discipleship.” Jesus calls each one of us by name to follow Him. He first asks us to come to Him, because He knows we cannot give what we have not received. Then, He sends us forth to “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations” (Mt 28:19).
How will we respond to His gifts of love? We can respond and show our love to God through our prayer life, our service to those in need, and through warm hospitality. Another way is by financially supporting the good works of the Local Church that are outside the scope of our local parishes.
The appeal will run until December 31, 2023. The Catholic Ministries Appeal provides another way to financially support the good works of our Local Church, which is made up of the parishes, schools and facilities of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana, as well as our Chancery offices and staff in Lafayette.
This year our parish goals are as follows:

Prior to this weekend, you received an envelope in the mail from Bishop Doherty with a brochure explaining the many ministries supported by this important appeal, as well as a pledge card and return envelope for mailing. The appeal provides another way to financially support the good works of our Local Church, which is made up of the parishes, schools and facilities of the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana, as well as our Chancery offices and staff in Lafayette.
When you donate to the Catholic Ministries Appeal, you are helping to pay for the formation of your seminarians, assisting with the health insurance of your retired priests, and the college ministry programs at Ball State, Purdue and Wabash College. Your gift supports the life-changing spiritual encounters with Christ at the Saint Joseph Retreat & Conference Center, the pastoral annulment proceedings at the Marriage Tribunal, and the creation and ministry of many programs. These things contribute to an effort to help every soul across our 24 counties to know Jesus Christ and to foster a deeper personal commitment to follow Him in His Church.
In order to reach our goal, I am asking each household to consider a gift that can be paid before the end of 2023. Further, I’d like to challenge us to meet our PLEDGE goal by MARCH 15th, so that we can spend the majority of 2023 focusing on all the other great things we have already been building here in our pastorate:
- Strengthening and growing our youth and adult Faith Formation programs, including small Faith groups, Beers with Bennett and NCYC.
- Making a strong finish to the Sacred Heart Restore & Grow rebuilding campaign and opening of the church and rededication ceremony.
- Continued growth in outreach programs and evangelization efforts in our community.
- Long term planning for building and grounds needs and necessary upgrades at all parishes.
- Upcoming Pastorate Photo directory this fall!!!
- Many great things to come!
I ask that you study the mailing you received from Bishop Doherty, and prayerfully consider your pledge, as you plan your gift for the 2023 annual Catholic Ministries Appeal.

Several people have asked about having access to the series of homilies on the Ten Commandments. Some have had travel plans and missed a week and wanted to catch up.
The homilies are available on our website and will continue to be posted as we continue to "break open the scroll" and to dive into the Word of God. As we continue to dive into the great gift revealed to Moses and the Church in the great gift of the Ten Commandments, we will continue to ponder our response to God's Call to Love Him and our neighbor.

Please take the time to go to the basement to pick up any dishes or containers that may belong to you. They are on the table behind the curtains. Any containers remaining after March 5th will be donated.

A special thank you to everyone who sent cards, letters and care packages to Eli Dobson. He was very appreciative of your love and support. He will hopefully be returning to the states in later March/early April. He cannot receive any more regular letters or care packages at this time. Hopefully, he will be able to stop in at St. Augustine when he is on leave this summer. Please continue to pray for his safety and the safety of all the people who serve our country.

Diocese Events and Updates
The Young Adult Theology on Tap Regional Diocesan event held at Ayda's in Rensselaer was a success! Approximately 20 young adults from Pulaski Co, Northern, Central and Southern Jasper Co attended the event. The keynote speaker, Grant Freeman, spoke about Truth, Goodness and Beauty. His emphasis was on the beauty of our Catholic Faith. He encouraged those attending to recognize the beauty of the Mass. He emphasized the importance of sharing meals together. Thanks to all who took time out of their busy schedules to share a meal, fellowship, and our Catholic Faith.
