Recap of This Week:
3rd Grade Math: This week, they learned different strategies for the following division facts: dividing by 4, 6, 7, and 8.
4th Grade Math: The students began our new unit on fractions. They learned how to model and generate equivalent fractions. We ended the week by learning how to change a pair of fractions with unlike denominators into a pair of fractions with a common denominator. This skill be used next week to compare fractions.
Reading: This week's focus was on identifying the narrator and point of view that a text was written in. The students learned the characteristics and benefits of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person points of view.
Phonics/Spelling: Each group practiced their words using different sorts and skills. All students took their Lesson 12 Assessment today. Those will come home with your child next week.
Science: We read about what soil is exactly (formal definition and different components) and took notes in our science notebooks.
Art: The students completed all the parts of our door decoration titled "Put on the Armor of God". Please vote for our door in the contest! See the attached picture below.
Next Week in 3rd/4th Grade:
3rd Grade Math: The students will finish their division unit. They will learn strategies for the dividing by 9 facts. They will review the chapter, play Kahoot, and take their test. Their test is tentatively scheduled for next Thursday.
4th Grade Math: The students will continue learning about fractions. Our week will focus on different strategies to compare fractions.
Reading: We will continue to work with point of view. Our focus will switch to character perspectives (how different characters feel/react to a situation or problem) and compare the different points of view stories are told from.
Phonics/Spelling: The students will receive their next set of words. Students will practice their words in different sorts and activities. Our skills next week focus on: Word Families, Short and Long a Patterns, Long o Patterns, UR, URE, and UR-E, Open and Closed Syllables, and Ambiguous Vowels in Accented Syllables.
Due to different Catholic Schools Week activities and events, we will fit in learning about physical weathering in science and continuing our president writing pieces as we have time.
I hope to see you on Sunday at the kickoff Mass (9:00 a.m.) for Catholic Schools Week!
Have a blessed weekend!
