The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord marks the fortieth day after Christmas, and commemorates Christ’s dedication in the Jerusalem temple (Luke 2:22–38). In England, the Presentation came to be known as “Candlemas,” since it is the Church’s custom to bless candles that will be used throughout the year (the paschal candle, candles for the Advent wreath, etc.). Parishioners are invited to bring with them candles to be blessed that will be used in their home throughout 2023.
Bishop Knestout will celebrate this Mass to honor those who serve the Church by living out the evangelical counsels - poverty, chastity, and obedience - in a permanent state of life (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 915). Mass will be held at 5:00 p.m.
