Christmas Day
Dear Friends in the Lord,
“Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.” (Luke 2 : 10-11)
Today we celebrate the mystery of the Incarnation, God made man. He comes to us humbly, as a baby in a manger. This is surely a cause for great joy! For during these days in which it seems that so much darkness envelopes our cities, our country, and our world, the message of the angel to the shepherds continues to resonate in our hearts. “Be not afraid!” For just as the SUN has begun to rise again in the sky bringing more light into our days, so too the SON has come to banish the darkness of sin and evil in our world, and make possible our salvation.
May this Christmas be a time for peace, love, and joy for you, your family, and your loved ones. You will have a special remembrance in my Masses and prayers throughout the Christmas season.
Faithfully yours in the Infant Jesus,
Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan
Archbishop of New York
