Hello St. Matthew Elementary Families,
Progress Reports for our 1st Semester should be arriving in the mail some time this week.
Remember we utilize a standards-based grading system. A good thing to remember is that students are working towards a 3 by the end of the school year. If you see a 1 or a 2 this means they are working towards the goal of a 3 but still need to continue to work on those standards. The wonderful part of the 4, 3, 2, 1 scale is that it allows students the chance to continue working on their standards throughout the entirety of the school year and is not a one-and-done score. If you see a 4 that means they have met the standard and have exceeded the grade level expectation for that standard. At this point in the year a two is very common as Iowa Core Standards are written for the end of the school year. There is still plenty of time to learn and grow towards a 3 or 4.
Elementary Evaluation Marks (JK-5) - are a numerical indicator of the student's progress toward meeting the designated standard. A student receives evaluation marks based on progress made for his/her individual abilities.
Further Defined:
4- The student has consistently gone beyond expectations in the standard area.
3- The student has demonstrated the challenging work that is needed to meet the standard. A 3 is the goal for the END of the year.
2- The student is progressing toward learning the skills and knowledge defined by the standard. Sometimes there are more skills to be assessed within a standard and a 2 is all that is possible at this point in the year.
1- The student is beginning to learn the skills needed to make progress toward the standard but should continue work on this area.
NA- The standard has not been assessed during this current semester.
