Staff Profile: Maria House, Receptionist
(above) has ministered as the “welcoming face” of our Lady of Lourdes since 2007.
When asked what her primary responsibilities are she responds enthusiastically that her job is to welcome people, to make them aware that they are valued and wanted here. She noted that she has had the benefit of an extended family but that many do not. She wants everyone she encounters, in person, in the office, and on the telephone, to feel like they are being treated like a member of a caring extended family, our parish! She is very successful at communicating exactly that!
Her official duties are to:
· Receive visitors and connect them with the appropriate members of the staff and parish
· Answer the parish telephone
· Register new families
· Coordinate baptisms (schedule and maintain records)
· Write the weekly Mass announcements and intercessory prayers
· Schedule Mass intentions
Her unofficial duties include listening and coordinating the Cookies For The Troops ministry.
Maria was born in Raleigh and attended Sacred Heart Cathedral School and Cardinal Gibbons High School.
She worked as an assistant in a local psychology practice then married Michael in 1975. They have three children.
Maria and Michael opened the Casa Carbone Restaurant in 1984. Maria has cut back on her hours there but still makes all the desserts for the restaurant on Wednesday and Saturday.
She made her Cursillo many years ago and is still an active member of a follow-on Cursillo prayer group.
She loves music (having played the guitar). She enjoys reading and daily devotionals.
