A Message From Father Brady
Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of our annual Lenten journey. The season of Lent is a time to focus on repentance, or changing our lives, by prayer (strengthening our relationship with God), almsgiving (strengthening our relationship with our neighbor), and fasting (the discipline to live out our love of God and our neighbor). During Lent, we “repent,” or try to amend and change our lives, by focusing on these three things: Prayer, Almsgiving and Fasting. The following is a reminder of our universal Lenten disciplines of our Catholic Church and their purpose.
We are required to “fast” on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. When we fast, it reminds us to create a place in our lives where we hunger for God and God alone, and that we are weak, mortal beings who are totally dependent on God, but also blessed and loved by Him. Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics in good health and who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. Those who are bound to fast may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted, if necessary, to maintain strength according to each one’s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted.
“Abstinence” means that we refrain from eating meat on that day, and is meant to be a form of penance or self-denial in remembrance of Jesus' Passion and Death. Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics in good health and who are 14 years or older on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and on all Fridays of Lent. Although abstinence from meat is not required on other Fridays during the year, some form of penance or self-denial should be observed on all Fridays in remembrance of Jesus' Passion and Death.
Fasting and abstinence are reminders of the discipline needed to live a virtuous Christian life and the self-renunciation necessary to love God and our neighbor. Through these disciplines, let’s pray that we come to greater knowledge and love of Our Savior during the Lenten Season, which will change our lives for the better!

The next Women’s Guild meeting will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. in the Parish Life Center. All Catholic women over 18 yrs. old are invited— new members encouraged!
The Guild is an active service ministry that cares for the immediate needs of the Altar and Sacristy and hosts receptions after Sacramental Rites, the Passover Meal and monthly coffee and donut events.

Women's ACTS Retreat
Are you interested in deepening your faith and finding a community of faith to help support you on your faith journey? If so, consider signing up for the next St. Pius X Women’s ACTS Retreat which will be held March 23-26, 2023. The retreat begins Thursday evening, March 23rd, with check-in at 5:00 p.m. Retreatants will return to St. Pius X for Mass on Sunday, March 26th. Transportation will be provided.

ACTS is a parish-based retreat in which parishioners serve parishioners. The ACTS Retreat, an acronym for Adoration, Community, Theology and Service, began in the 1980’s in San Antonio, Texas. The retreat’s goals are to strengthen our faith and its application in our daily life, to renew ourselves spiritually, to build strong, lasting friendships, and to grow in our relationship with our Lord, our parish and one another.
The ACTS weekend is presented by lay Catholics, with support provided by a Spiritual Director/companion or clergy. Parishioners who serve on ACTS retreats strive to provide the opportunity for our parish community to experience, become, and share the Body of Christ. Once parishioners attend a St. Pius X Parish ACTS Retreat, they can help serve in future retreats. Please consider this wonderful gift for yourself or someone you love.

No prior experience is needed as the rosary-making veterans will help train any beginners that are interested. All supplies are provided at no cost. Attendance is flexible, as well as the location. Some meet at St. Pius X each week and others pick up supplies to make the Rosaries at home. For over 20 years, this ministry has helped to evangelize and spread the warmth of God’s love to others, not only teaching people how to say the Rosary, but giving them the means to do so as well. There’s nothing more rewarding and purposeful than that, especially when thousands of Rosaries are distributed each year to schools, missionaries, hospitals, charities, and the poor. Truly in the spirit of collaboration to make St. Pius X what it is today, they even provide the Rosaries for other ministries, like the Prayer Quilt Fellowship, Hospital Eucharistic Ministry, Nursing Home Visitation, RCIA, Life Teen, and the Knights of Columbus. To lend a hand to those who need God’s prayers the most, please consider joining this lively, hardworking and dedicated group. If you would like to remember or honor your loved ones this Easter by placing an Easter Memorial donation, please do so by Friday, March 24th in order to have names printed in the Easter Sunday bulletin.
Names of donors or the person being honored/remembered will be printed unless donors specify otherwise. Any donations received after March 24th will still be honored at the Easter Masses, though names will have to be published in subsequent bulletins due to early printing deadlines.
