Catherine Teresa Dougherty Hogan peacefully passed away on March 8, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
Catherine (Kay, Kate) was born on June 24, 1926, in Philadelphia, PA to James and Ann Dougherty. She attended Little Flower Grade School where she met James Edward Hogan in 6th grade and then graduated from Little Flower High School. Kay worked at Western Union until Jim finished college and started his career at UPS. Living in Pennsylvania and Texas where they made many lifelong friends, Jim and Kay had six daughters and were married for 66 years until Jim’s death in 2013.
Kay welcomed everyone with open arms and always made them feel part of the family. Holding on to her characteristic clarity and warmth, she felt blessed to have a chance to see or speak to her entire immediate family and many of her extended family and friends during her final weeks.
Kay lived a full life to the end, willing to go anywhere to enjoy time with her children, grandchildren, friends, and large extended family. She loved gathering people together for any occasion or none, babysitting, traveling, giving gifts, cards, sweets, and herself to family and friends, shopping, making sure everything matched, playing games (especially trivia) and volunteering. Always kind, she had a gift for making those around her feel special and loved. Kay had a strong, beautiful faith, and she was very involved at St. Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church in Plano, TX. She was a strong supporter of the Serra Club, Catholic Charities, St. Vincent De Paul and the Knights of Columbus as well as numerous other charities and schools through her children and grandchildren.
A Rosary Service will be held for Kay on Sunday, March 19, at 7:00 pm at Sparkman Funeral Home, 1029 South Greenville Ave., Richardson, TX, 75081. A Vigil will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2023, followed by a 10:00 am Mass at St. Mark The Evangelist Catholic Church, 1201 Alma Dr. Plano, TX 75075.
