Three Disciplines of Lent ~ What you can do to draw closer to God ... (Discipline = Disciple)
Prayer - as in any good relationship, communication is a must.
Prayer is our communication with God, Praising, worshiping, thanksgiving, requesting and bearing our souls. Pray for those in need physically, spiritually, mentally. Pray for yourself, "Lord I believe, but help my unbelief." He created us so He knows what we need, but that prayer life is important for us to stay connected.
Fasting - We take something out of our lives to make room for something better. Turn off the television and go to stations of the cross, Read the story of the Last Supper of Jesus in chapter 13 of the Gospel of John, verses 1-15, spend time reading and cuddling with your child, pray a rosary, do the Examen.
Almsgiving - give to a cause that makes a difference. Do something especially kind for a family member, neighbor, or friend. Don't buy that latte ... take the money and donate it to Dorothy Day, Caring and Sharing Hands, the Peace Center, your parish, or another worthy cause. You get the idea.
