“Grave Thoughts”
As Lent approaches and we get ready to think about our salvation in the coming weeks, it also turns the mind towards one’s own end. We talk much about being prepared spiritually, but are we prepared physically? Have we planned what we’d like our loves ones to do when the time comes? Have you ever wondered why some individuals plan to be cremated and some don’t? Can we scatter ashes? Is a funeral even needed?
As you ponder these questions, here is the official stance of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops on cremation: Click HERE to read.
Because of this, Holy Cross has kept cemetery spaces at a very affordable price for parishioners and their families. We have many loving staff and volunteers who can help you plan. If you have any questions about our own cemetery, please contact Jim Naples, Cemetery Site Manager, or Annette Flagg in the office.
For help in pre-planning your funeral, you can contact Marge Chamberlin. Of course, Father Sal and our deacons are more than happy to answer any spiritual questions you may have. “Memento Mori” – Remember, you must die. Leave your loved ones with ease by pre-planning. God bless you!

Eucharistic Revival:
Understanding "Real Presence"
In response to a PEW survey that showed that 62% of Catholics and 80% of young Catholics do not say they believe in the "real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist," the US Catholic bishops have initiated a Eucharistic Revival 2022-2024.
Jerry Carney will unpack the survey results and suggest a path to understanding, and even celebrating, the real presence.

Special Lenten Series
For Lent this year give God your time.
Holy Cross is offering a course on The Passion of Christ
by Ascension Press starting Tuesday, March 7, 2023 for 5 weeks.
Come and deepen your faith and learn more about how God showed His supreme love for us.
The class format is a 30-minute DVD presentation followed by a 30-minute group discussion. You have three options to attend:
Tuesdays at 10AM, Tuesdays at 6:30PM, and Thursday at 10AM.
We hope to welcome new members to our classes this Lent.

There's something about taking a step away from our normal lives into a place that's set aside that rejuvenates us, isn't there? Even in the Gospels, Jesus retreated into the mountains to connect with His father. This Lent, journey into the foothills of the Shenandoah and join young adults from across the diocese for a day of reflection. Sister Maria, one of the nuns at Our Lady of the Angels Monastery, will lead us through the theme of Your Pain Will Turn Into Joy: Walking Through the Desert with Mary, Our Mother.
The Lenten Day of Reflection for Young Adults is Saturday, March 25 from 10am-6:30pm at Our Lady of the Angels Monastery in Crozet, VA. $30/person includes lunch and other retreat supplies.

2021 Jesse Tree Ministry
Elves Delivered! This past week Jesse Tree gifts, food, and even stockings for the younger children, were distributed to 77 households in our area. Families came from our parish community, as well as those referred to us by Interfaith Outreach Association, Lynchburg Social Services, Miriam’s House and McGurk House.
Thanks: Many thanks to all those who made the 2021 Jesse Tree Ministry a success!
We will resume distributing the monthly bags in the Commons the first weekend in February.
