Staff Profile: Joan Rose Brown, Director of Faith Formation
Joan has served the parish as Director of Faith Formation since 2001.
Joan develops and coordinates faith formation programs and classes for:
· Children’s Faith Formation (CFF)
· Adult Faith Formation (AFF)
· Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
· Sacramental preparation for parents of grade 2 students
· Adult Confirmation
· Returning Catholics
· Children’s Liturgy of the Word
· Vacation Bible School
She guides the development and planning for new programs in response to parishioners’ interests including:
Joan develops and leads parish retreats and Days of Reflection for adults.
She chairs the Parish Spirituality Committee.
Joan was born in Youngstown, Ohio and has lived in Ohio, Indiana, and Connecticut before moving to North Carolina.
She graduated from Magnificat HS, received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Kent State University and her Master of Pastoral Studies (MPS) from Loyola. She
completed a two-year program in Spiritual Direction and is offering Spiritual Direction to those seeking a deeper relationship with the Lord.
Before joining the parish staff she worked as a news reporter for WPTF-AM, followed by four years as news reporter and producer for WUNC-TV. She held a position in corporate communications for five years, then established and managed her own communications consulting company, Rose Communications for five years.
Joan is a skilled cook and iconographer. She has three stepchildren and one grandchild.
She is married to Jimmie Brown, who coordinates the OLL Lectors, and they both serve as Lectors. Jimmie is a News Editor at WRAL-TV.
