Dear Parishioners,
On February 22, Ash Wednesday, we began the Holy season of Lent when the Church calls us to retreat and retrospection. The aim of this is to help us discover our spiritual wounds, clean them, and surrender them for healing. Like a good mother and teacher, the Church provides us with the means of doing this.
The Church calls us to deepen our prayer life and to practice fasting and abstinence according to our age, health condition, and ability. And to also live for others through almsgiving and other acts of charity. We are all expected to participate in these spiritual exercises and other activities like the Stations of the Cross which take place every Friday during Lent at 7 PM in our parish.
Different groups help us to end our fast as a community. Last week, we had a huge turnout in what could be described as the best fish fry organized by our parish Knights of Columbus. Over 430 dinners were sold! About 60 of these were walk-ins and all were well attended to. We thank the members of the Knights for their gallant effort and sacrifice.
• This Friday, March 3, our St. Catherine of Siena School will be organizing a soup supper beginning at 6 PM. Please come out to support our kids and encourage them. There is no charge for the soup, but it is first come, first served. Stations of the Cross follows at 7 PM.
• There will be mandatory training for all current and prospective Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Camillus Ministers. This is required training for all who wish to serve our community in this capacity, regardless of prior training or experience. Newcomers are welcome! Training sessions will be held in the church on Monday, March 13th, and Monday, March 20th, from 6 to 7:30 pm. Please plan to attend one of these two trainings.
• Please remember to support the ongoing Bishop’s Annual Appeal (BAA), which benefits the poor, funds campus ministries and missions; marriage and seminary formation, and other evangelical events overseen by our Bishop. Our parish has reached 55% of its goal. Pledges could be made through the BAA cards or by clicking the donation button below.
• Our second collection this weekend is for Of Living Stones – our Church Building Fund.
May the Lord continue to fill all of us with the desire and zeal to seek his face and deepen our relationship with him during this Lent.
In Christ,
Fr. Matthew Nwafor
