Thank-you, St. Bridget Church!
While Christmas may seem like the last thing from our minds, last week we were reminded by the gratitude expressed by these families in Floyd, VA.
St. Bridget's parishioners did it again and touched the hearts of many. Christmas Sharing made a difference in the lives of more than 50 families. Low-income families tend to face many barriers, causing the holidays to feel overwhelming.
Thanks to the generosity St. Bridget parish, and the dedication of hard-working volunteers, the program has been a great success for years.
Many families we serve around the Charlottesville area, rely on disability checks and other forms of government assistance. Many of them are faced with suffering beyond their poverty level, and many are unable to take care of themselves.
As we journey through Lent, remember to pray for the poor, and for the ability to respond to their needs. Remember that poverty looks different for everyone, and that as Catholics, this is our calling.
In Matthew 5:16 we hear the parable of Salt & Light where Jesus says: "In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven."
