Treasure Box Activity
As Catholics we pray with our whole bodies. People sometimes tease us because at Mass we make the sign of the cross, genuflect, bow, sit, stand, kneel, shake hands, repeat… The bowing, kneeling and genuflecting are postures of honor, a way of saying God is higher and more than me. It shows us being humble and reverent before the presence of God. So when do we bow and when do we genuflect you ask? If the tabernacle is in the main sanctuary at church, you genuflect before you enter your pew. That is not the case at Blessed Sacrament. The tabernacle is in the little prayer chapel behind the screen. When you enter that chapel you genuflect in recognition of the real presence of Jesus. When the tabernacle is not present in the main worship space, then you bow in reverence to the altar where we believe heaven and earth touch, where the bread and wine are changed to the body and blood of Jesus. Be sure to bow before you enter your pew at Mass, when you receive the body and blood of Christ, and when you pass in front of the altar this week and every week.
