Lou opened our meeting with a prayer.
Committee Reports:
Gospel Mass Zelda
Father Jean Ntawugashira and Deacon Oliver Jackson from St. Rita’s
have agreed to come to St. Tom’s for a Gospel Mass on Saturday, April
15th at 5:30 PM. Since that is only 5 ½ weeks away, we will have to be
very efficient with the plans for this project going forward. The decision will
be made by week’s end if we will stick to the April date, or postpone until
next fall. If we will stay with the April 15 for the Gospel Mass, publicity,
non-presider announcements, and a meal for our guests after
Mass will be scheduled and arranged. Bill, Eileen, Jay, Lou, Rob and
Duane Sellers will be helping with this project.
Fresh Market Pantry Barb
Barb was unable to attend the meeting due to her involvement with an all-day
event for CASA volunteers. She will report at our next meeting.
Homily Talking Points & Prayers of the Faithful Brian
Brian has submitted to Deacon Dan a list of 5 or 6 talking points which could
be used for the priests' homilies, but isn't sure if those have been passed along to Father yet. Brian will be submitting ideas for prayers of the faithful to Deacon Dan also.
Future Educational Programming Eileen
Eileen met after the general meeting was adjourned with her committee
members in attendance. Stay tuned for some announcements she will
share next month.
Racism as a Public Health Crisis Leo
Leo will be going to Mississippi on a mission trip with Dee and several
Purdue students, and plans to share with them a timeline of some key dates
in African American History. He shared and discussed with us the timeline
he had written and asked for additions, deletions or changes to the
information he had put together. Discussion was lively and members hope
that some of the students will come to our April meeting and speak to us
about what they learned on their trip from their experience in Mississippi
and from the information Leo shared.
Announcements / Resources:
Zelda shared that the Purdue Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging
will be offering an interactive workshop series this spring, Speaking Up:
How Bystanders Can Change the Conversation About Social Bias. She will
provide more detailed information and a link in a Flocknote.
Since we met Zelda has found out that this program is not open to retirees or the public.
Our next RE&J general meeting will be Tuesday, April 4 at 7 pm at St. Tom’s in room 3.
Eileen gave our closing prayer.
