Update from Karl Hartman - Seminarian
No ponds have frozen yet this winter to skate on. That is one of the reasons I am going north for spring break in hopes for some outdoor hockey and skiing. Despite being deprived of the added joys of outdoor winter activities, I can say that my life is joyful. In fact, the best decision I made in my life was respond to God’s call.
I am now in my seventh year of priestly formation in the seminary, and I have just three years before I am ordained a PRIEST!! Wow, crazy to think, just 3 years!! Ten years of seminary seemed so long when I started.
I am still at Sacred Heart Major Seminary, now in my second year of theology. Classes are very applicable to my formation for the priesthood and some are more practical in focus. Each week during the fall, I was visiting a Catholic care facility bringing residents Holy Communion and praying with them. This semester, I have been at a large hospital visiting patients and praying with them. This practical clinical experience has been so rewarding, although, at times difficult. Another highlight has been my homiletics class, where we practice preparing and preaching homilies. In responding to God’s call, I am serving the local Church during my time in studies, something I look forward to doing through my vocation for the rest of my life.
I am excited to say that starting in September, my priestly formation will get even more practical, for I will start my pastoral internship year. At this time, I don’t know where, but I am excited, nevertheless!
None of what I am experiencing would be possible without those who have invested in my formation – thank you for your prayers, donations and encouragement. As I look ahead to these final three years that will lead to my ordination, I ask that you prayerfully consider continuing your support. Whether you can join with a monthly gift or an annual contribution each year, I invite you to visit my fundraising page, where you can view my video and make your donation. Visit my page

God calls each of us in different ways, and I know that He is asking me to serve my school community and the eventual faith community I will join. The amount of growth and support I have experienced through my time in priestly formation has been incredible. None of which would be possible without your prayers and gifts. Thank you for the ways you have contributed to what God is doing in my life and the Church. Your support is greatly needed and appreciated.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support
God Bless,
