Happy St. Patrick's Day! It may disappoint many of you to know that, when St. Patrick's Day falls during Lent (which is almost always), the Lenten Weekday observance takes the higher liturgical priority! The fact that it falls on a Friday this year is a double whammy for those who want to celebrate this feast day. That being said, as I shared last week, Bishop Fernandes recognizes that this day is "traditionally an occasion for joy-filled celebrations in this diocese, especially among those of Irish heritage," and therefore, offers a dispensation AS LONG AS one of the following conditions is met:
1. make a pilgrimage or visit to any church in the Diocese of Columbus named in honor of St. Patrick (Columbus, London, Junction City)
2. assist at Mass at any church, chapel, or oratory today
3. pray the "breastplate of St. Patrick," which can be found here: https://hallow.com/blog/st-patricks-day-prayers-irish-blessings/
4. engage in some pious devotion such as the Rosary,
the Stations of the Cross, or Eucharistic Adoration
5. perform an act of comparable penance (such as abstaining from meat) this week. (If you haven't done this already, tomorrow is your last chance!)
In other St. Patrick's Day news, our very own Deacon Jeffrey will be on Catholic Radio this morning from 10:45-11:30. Call in during his time slot to support Deacon Jeffrey and Catholic radio.
Our Knights of Columbus will be accepting donations for the Support our Seminarians collection in the Gathering Space after each Mass this weekend. Your generosity enables our Knights to provide assistance of all kinds to the seminarians at the Pontifical College Josephinum.
Finally, this Sunday I will be hearing confessions for our PSR 3-5th graders so Fr. Charlie Klinger will celebrate 11:30 Mass. As always, thank you for making him feel welcome at Our Lady of Peace.
