Principal's Corner
Stations of the Cross at the Parishes: Our priests are asking us to encourage our students who belong to the parishes to participate with the parish families in Friday Stations of the Cross at the parishes. Some students balked at going again Friday night because we pray them here on Fridays during Lent. We still want to pray the Stations of the Cross as a school community, so we did them Tuesday this week. I realize that without a Church area where we can actually see the Stations as we pray them, there is something missing. At Church yesterday I thought to myself wouldn't it be great if we could do our Stations there during Wednesdays in Lent. That does have scheduling difficulties that we may or may not be able to work out for next year. In the interim, please try to participate in your parish's liturgies (I told the students that our priests are missing us on Friday nights; we're a part of the parish family). I will also not pray the Divine Mercy on Friday's at 3:10 for the remainder of Lent for the same reason (we need to be in the parishes Friday night praying Stations).
Prayers Needed: Please pray for Cade Eggum, the police officer injured in the crash as he was responding to an emergency in Eagan on Tuesday. He is the fiance of a Yearby family member's (who have first grader and a preschooler) niece and he is from Lonsdale. Thanks to all police officers who risk so much every day to protect us.
Thank you: Thank you to our wonderful CPO members who support the teachers and staff with special treats and meals!
Parents looking for good books to read: (from the Librarian)
Here is just something off the top of my head that you can share an experience with your child with by reading separately or together (both genders boys and girls would like them; they're in ascending level of reading challenge) . Many times, I like these books more than ANY books I have ever read (a lot of the greatest authors wrote for kids):
Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster (wacky)
Farmer Boy Laura Wilder Ingalls (hard work equals ample portions of good food)
Railway Children Edith Nesbitt (beautifully written)
Rascal, by Sterling North (the audio from the author is great for long car rides)
Carry on Mr. Bowditch Jean Lee Latham (people in the Navy know who he is)
Johnny Tremain by Esther Forbes
Moon Over Manifest by Clare Vanderpool (Newbury Award book, very cool and hilarious, a school board member from a previous school I was at was writing her first novel while having four children in our school). I can lend one to you.
Emily of Deep Valley Maud Hart Love (loosely connected with the Betsy and Tibs series--same town, crossover characters)
Across Five Aprils, by Irene Hunt Civil War, sad, but moving
The Scarlett Pimpernel, by Baroness Orczy
Advanced: Little Dorrit, by Charles Dickens (great mini-series)
