One of the initiatives of the Road to Renewal is for the new family of parishes to celebrate major events and liturgies together. This is necessitated by the fact that we will have fewer priests than the number of parishes within each family. The most important week in the life of a Christian is Holy Week and the most important liturgy is that of the Triduum, that is Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday’s most solemn Easter Vigil. The priests of our Central Niagara Catholic Family considered our options and we came up with a schedule that ensures that all parishes will host a liturgy during these three days. Each year going forward the different events will rotate so that all will host the different events over the course of four years. This is the only equitable path forward. The schedule this year is as follows:
Every parish will keep their normal schedule for Palm Sunday
All Saints and Immaculate Conception will celebrate Morning Prayer on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday.
The Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday will be held at All Saints at 7PM followed by Reposition of the Blessed Sacrament until Midnight in their chapel.
The Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion on Good Friday will be held at St. Brendan Newfane at 3PM.
On Good Friday evening, Immaculate Conception will host a solemn Stations of the Cross at 7PM.
The Solemn Vigil Mass of Easter on Holy Saturday will be held at St. John the Baptist at 8:30PM. A reminder that there are no other Masses on Holy Saturday.
Easter Sunday Mass schedule will be as normal at each parish.
While we know that this change may be unsettling, it should be seen as a way to celebrate our salvation in Christ in a new way with great numbers of our new family worshiping God together!
