In December of 2020, Pope Francis proclaimed the “year of St. Joseph.” Alongside this devotion came an Apostolic Letter titled “Patris Corde” or “With a Father’s Heart.”
The feast of St. Joseph is behind us now, but he is still a saint who’s intercession we should frequently invoke. While St. Joseph is mentioned in only a few chapters of the gospel, what is written of him boils down to the virtues that were necessary in providing for the Holy Family.
St. Joseph was devoted to the will of God in all circumstances, and remained silent as he discerned his will in all things. Jesus needed a human father, and the heart of St. Joseph was necessary for the nurturing of the son of God. He was a man that went unnoticed, and yet played a vital role in the story of our salvation. He is a daily reminder that “actions speak louder than words” and he is a great model for all fathers and their families.
As Lent draws to an end, may we seek to emulate the interior life of St. Joseph by our faith, humility, courage, and long suffering.
