LITURGICAL NOTES FROM ST. COLUMBA – MARCH 22, 2023
OFFERTORY GIFTS – Offertory Gifts will return this weekend. For Daily Mass, the table will be up front. For weekend Mass, the table will be in the back of the church. Two people are needed at each Mass. Anyone can bring up the gifts. But it is customary that when a Mass Intention is offered, that family has first preference. Please come 10 (ten) minutes before Mass to make the request. At Daily Mass, speak to the Deacon. At Weekend Mass, speak to the Head Usher. At the end of the Prayer of the Faithful, immediately proceed to the table and bring the Offertory Gifts to the Priest. Please do not delay. If there is an Altar Server, follow the Altar Server up the aisle.
LECTORS – As always, please plan to arrive ten minutes early and check in with the Deacon. A new seat is designated for Lectors. Please come up to the Sanctuary using the new handrail. At Daily Mass when the Psalm is spoken, please pause ten seconds between the end of the Reading and the Psalm. At 7:30 am Sunday Mass, please be prepared to read the Universal Prayer.
EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS – As always, please plan to arrive ten minutes early and check in with the Deacon. A new seat is designated for EM’s. After the priest receives the Precious Blood, come forward and sanitize your hands before receiving. When you are done distributing Holy Communion, please come to the CENTER and wait for the Priest/Deacon. After handing over the Ciborium, take a moment to dip your fingers in the finger bowl then sanitize again.
TRAINING FOR VETERAN AND NEW LECTORS, EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS AND ALTAR SERVERS – Coming in the Spring. See Father Walter.
RECEIVING COMMUNION – Communion Reminders:
- We are asked to make a reverent bow before receiving. This is best done as the person ahead of you is receiving.
- If receiving in the hand, remember that one is to make a “Throne For the Lord” with your hands one under the other and as flat as possible.
- Please consume the Host immediately. Do not walk away with a Host!
- For those who wish to receive a Blessing, please fold your arms across your chest. Please teach children how to do this so that they can also be blessed.
HOLY THURSDAY – Twelve volunteers are needed for the Washing of the Feet. Please call the Rectory if you would like to take part (845-227-8380).
