A one-hour electricity “fast," and an opportunity to Pray, Learn, Act and Advocate on behalf of all of God’s Creation...
Have you ever heard of Earth Hour? According to the World Wildlife Fund’s website, it is, “the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment,” which hopes to raise awareness and inspire collective action against climate change and nature loss.
The Earth Hour movement asks that we turn off our lights tonight, wherever we are, from 8:30 – 9:30 pm local time.
People in more than 190 countries and territories will participate, with some notable landmarks, including the Empire State Building and the Space Needle, joining in also.
According to the Chris Conner, WWF’s vice president of media and external affairs. “Nature needs us. People need us. Our climate needs us. Earth Hour is an opportunity for us all to come together, not only to celebrate everything our planet provides us, but also to protect it.”
Some of the suggestions for using the lights-out time are, “…spend some quiet time in nature or pick up litter.”
We would like to add, “Pray in gratitude to God for the gift of Creation and for His help in caring for it.” A rosary would be a good way to do this. We also offer "We Thank You Lord," from the Order of Poor Clares of the Monastery of San Damiano, attached here:
